"As a sacrifice, stay back and help us revitalize the health sector" Minister of State for Health begs Nigerian doctors and nurses not to relocate

The federal government has reaffirmed its guarantee that steps are being taken to stop Nigeria’s brain drain.

On August 22, the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute Meta, Lagos, hosted a ceremony to officially open the Orthopedic and Trauma Centre, Molecular Building Complex, Oxygen gas plant, Clinical Training Centre, and Ultra-Modern Theatre. The ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama.

Speaking with reporter, Ekumankama admitted that the mass relocation of health personnel is a problem and is worrisome.

He said: “The greatest challenge facing the sector presently is the doctors and nurses leaving the country.”

The minister appealed to Nigerian medics to remain in the country to witness the efforts of the government.

He added: “As a sacrifice, I encourage them to stay back and help us revitalize the health sector. We have witnessed that today with what is on ground in this hospital.”

Ekumankama added that the government, in the last three years, released 100 percent of the health budget.
