Court Orders Oxlade To Pay 5 Million Naira In Damages Over Leaked Sex Tape

Nigerian singer, Oxlade has been fined five million naira by the Lagos High Court over his leaked sex tape with a woman on Snapchat.

Recall that in 2022, a sex tape of the singer surfaced online without the knowledge and consent of the woman in the video identified as John Blessing.

Following the outrage the leaked footage triggered, the singer was forced to tender a public apology both to his fans and the lady involved.

Despite the singer’s apology, Blessing filed a lawsuit seeking N20 million in damages and a declaration that Oxlade’s act of recording the explicit sexual acts without her knowledge and consent constituted a flagrant violation of enabling laws and a gross violation of her fundamental rights to dignity, privacy, and freedom from discrimination guaranteed by Sections 34 and 37 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended); and Articles 5 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.

Justice Olalekan Oresanya criticized the singer’s actions in surreptitiously recording and posting the tape online as ‘despicable, awful, nasty, and classless’ in a ruling dated January 24, 2023.

He also warned Oxlade not to repeat similar behavior in his future relationship with the opposite sex.
